The Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority (PPRA) has officially opened applications for its highly anticipated 2025 Employed Learnership Programme, targeting previously disadvantaged South Africans who are eager to build careers in the real estate industry.

This initiative presents an invaluable opportunity for young and motivated individuals already employed within the property sector to obtain a nationally recognised qualification, empowering them with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to succeed.

    Understanding the PPRA Learnership Programme

Known as the “One Learner – One Property Practitioner Programme,” the PPRA’s learnership aims to develop 34 candidate property practitioners through a structured 10-month training process. Successful learners will earn a Further Education and Training Certificate in Real Estate, an NQF Level 4 qualification registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA ID: 59097).

This programme is designed to bridge the gap between education and employment by providing learners with practical on-the-job training alongside formal instruction. It equips participants to become competent professionals ready to meet the demands of South Africa’s competitive real estate market.

    Who Qualifies for This Learnership?

The PPRA learnership specifically targets individuals who are currently working within the property industry but wish to formalise their expertise through an accredited qualification. This is particularly aimed at previously disadvantaged learners who meet the following criteria:

    • Minimum Education: Completion of Grade 11 or Matric.
    • Age Limit: Candidates must be 35 years or younger.
    • Employment Status: Must be employed by a property firm, with a letter confirming this employment.
    • Fidelity Fund Certificate (FFC): Candidates must hold a current FFC for the application year.

The Fidelity Fund Certificate is a critical legal requirement for practising property practitioners in South Africa. It verifies that an individual is registered and complies with industry regulations.

What to Expect from the Learnership

The learnership runs over 10 months and combines practical work experience with structured formal learning. While the programme is employment-based, it does not offer a stipend. However, the benefits of gaining a nationally recognised qualification and extensive practical experience significantly outweigh the absence of a financial allowance during the training period.

Candidates who successfully complete the programme will be well-prepared to advance their careers as property practitioners, equipped with comprehensive knowledge of real estate laws, regulations, and industry best practices.

    Application Requirements and Process

Interested candidates must prepare and submit a full application package that includes:

    • Certified copy of a South African ID.
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV).
    • Certified copies of Grade 11 or Matric certificates.
    • A current Fidelity Fund Certificate.
    • An employer’s letter confirming employment within a property firm.

Incomplete applications or those missing any documentation will not be considered.

Applications should be emailed to onelearner@theppra.org.za with the subject line: REF: LP02/01/2025. The closing date for submissions is 3 June 2025. Applicants who do not receive feedback within two weeks after this date should consider their applications unsuccessful.

The Importance of the PPRA Learnership

South Africa’s real estate sector is a vital contributor to the country’s economy and provides many career opportunities. Unfortunately, access to formal training and qualifications remains a challenge for many, particularly for previously disadvantaged individuals.

Through this learnership, the PPRA plays a crucial role in promoting transformation and employment equity within the property industry. The programme builds a pipeline of skilled, legally compliant property practitioners who can contribute to the sector’s growth and professionalism.
