The company is offering an 18-month internship program within their Strategic, Monitoring, and Evaluation (SME) department, specifically in the Environmental Section.

Internship Programme Details
The internship is available for two candidates, and it provides hands-on training and development within one of South Africa’s leading water care companies. The successful applicants will work closely with the Environmental Section, supporting tasks related to environmental assessments, auditing, and environmental education. Through this program, participants will gain insight into the processes behind environmental impact assessments for various projects, as well as the auditing procedures needed to ensure compliance with essential environmental regulations, including Green Drop and Wastewater Risk Abatement Plan (W2RAP) standards.
ERWAT, which serves the greater Johannesburg area and beyond, plays a critical role in water care, sanitation, and sustainable resource management. Key Requirements for Applicants
To be eligible for the internship program, applicants must meet certain criteria. Firstly, candidates must have completed their National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) and must have finished all theoretical modules required for a National Diploma or bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or environmental management or a related field. Additionally, applicants should not have participated in a formal internship or experiential learning program in the past.
Furthermore, the position is open exclusively to South African citizens. The ideal candidate should possess a positive attitude toward learning, good communication skills (both written and verbal), computer literacy, and an eye for detail. Physical fitness is also required as the role may involve fieldwork. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work well in a team, while also being proactive and resourceful in handling tasks independently.
Specific Outcomes and Training
Interns will be trained to support ERWAT’s environmental responsibilities, including but not limited to conducting environmental impact assessments for various projects, environmental auditing for both water care and wastewater projects, and ensuring that Green Drop and W2RAP requirements are met. The selected candidates will also assist in promoting environmental education, awareness, and research, which is central to ERWAT’s mission of sustainability.
