The South African Army is recruiting young South African citizens through the Military Skills Development System (MSDS). This two-year military training program provides an opportunity to serve in uniform, gain valuable skills, and explore career growth within the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

What is the Military Skills Development System (MSDS)?
The MSDS is a structured program designed to train and develop young South Africans interested in a military career. The first year consists of basic military and functional training, while the second year focuses on deployment and practical application of skills.
Upon completion, recruits may be offered continued service in the South African Army, depending on performance and available vacancies.
General Requirements
- Must be a South African citizen (dual citizenship is not allowed).
- Age: 18 – 22 years (Grade 12) or 18 – 26 years (with a minimum of N6 qualification or three years of tertiary education).
- Grade 12 certificate with an Admission Point Score (APS) of 17 (excluding Life Orientation).
- No criminal record or pending cases.
- Must meet the medical fitness requirements.
- No visible tattoos on the legs, lower arms, neck, or face.
Physical Requirements
- Females: Minimum height 148 cm, minimum weight 48 kg (BMI: 18.5 – 30).
- Males: Minimum height 155 cm, minimum weight 52 kg (BMI: 19 – 30).
