    Duties and Responsibilities

    Therapeutic Interventions / Psychosocial Support for PWUD:

    • Complete assessments and develop intervention plans for each client.
    • Oversee all counseling services for People Who Use Drugs (PWUD) in the project.
    • Provide safe and confidential psychosocial or crisis interventions for PWUD.
    • Offer trauma containment support.
    • Focus on supporting PWUD on Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) with social re-integration and family reunification.
    • Provide specific support for women who use or inject drugs.
    • Follow up on client adherence to ART, TB treatment, or PEP, assisting with adherence barriers.
    • Support HTS counselors with pre and post-HIV testing counseling.
    • Facilitate referrals for services such as shelter, food security, and psychological support.
    • Ensure reliable, respectful, and timely engagement with clients.

    Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST):

    • Educate beneficiaries, staff, and others on OST principles.
    • Prepare beneficiaries for OST and manage expectations.
    • Conduct screenings for potential OST clients.
    • Attend clinical meetings and provide psychosocial feedback.
    • Offer ongoing counseling and support using harm reduction principles.
    • Provide similar services for peers and staff upon request.
    • Conduct OST training sessions as needed.
    • Facilitate adherence support groups for OST clients.
    • Provide psychosocial support to the support people of clients on OST.
    • Assist with preparation and dosing of clients.

    Group Activities:

    • Plan psychosocial group activities in collaboration with Psychosocial Counselors.
    • Facilitate stakeholder engagements and sensitization workshops as needed.
    • Ensure activities are executed as planned and within budget.

    Trainings and Information Sharing:

    • Attend required trainings and cascade knowledge within the organization.
    • Facilitate trainings when necessary.

    Reporting, Administration, and Facilitation:

    • Complete data collection tools with consent and confidentiality agreements.
    • Maintain patient files for long-term interventions.
    • Compile reports on client trends, needs, challenges, and actions.
    • Participate in general program activities as required.
    • Perform program-related office administration duties.

    Organizational Responsibilities:

    • Update stakeholder and referral databases quarterly.
    • Attend meetings, briefings, and debriefings regularly.
    • Undertake additional responsibilities assigned by managers.
    • Represent the organization professionally and uphold its principles.
    • Provide debriefing to staff when necessary.
    • Act as a role model to promote positive behavior change among PWUD and colleagues.
    • Adhere to Anova’s vehicle management policy for travel requirements.

    Minimum Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Required

    • Degree in Social Work or relevant qualification.
    • Registration with The South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
    • 5 years’ experience as a Social Worker, with 2 years specifically working with PWUD.
    • Knowledge of Harm Reduction principles and HIV/AIDS prevention.
    • Experience managing other professionals (e.g., counselors, social auxiliary workers).
    • Familiarity with mental health therapeutic interventions and related legislation.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and record-keeping skills.
    • Ability to work under DoH policies and maintain confidentiality.
    • Supervisory, mentorship, leadership, and presentation skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and report writing.
    • Valid Code 08 (Code B) driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently.
    • Ability to interpret data accurately and maintain attention to detail.
    • Previous project management and coordination experience preferred.
