    What the Bursary Covers

    The bursary provides financial assistance to cover essential academic expenses, including:

    • Tuition fees
    • Prescribed textbooks
    • Accommodation
    • Meals

    However, the bursary does not cover any outstanding student debt.

    Service Obligation

    Recipients of the DRDAR bursary will be required to serve the department after completing their studies. The duration of the service obligation will match the period of funding received.

    Eligibility Criteria

    To qualify for the DRDAR bursary, applicants must meet the following requirements:

    1. Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
    2. Employment Status: Must be unemployed.
    3. Education: Must have completed Grade 12 (Matric) or NCV with Mathematics and Physical Science.
    4. Field of Study: Must be studying or intending to study in the approved fields (Agricultural Engineering or Bio-Resource Engineering).
    5. Disability: Youth with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
    6. Tertiary Institution: Must be registered or accepted at a recognized South African tertiary institution.
    7. Household Income: Total household income must not exceed R350,000 per annum (or R600,000 per annum for applicants with disabilities).
    8. Preference: Priority will be given to unemployed youth, individuals from designated groups, and residents of the Eastern Cape (though applicants from other provinces may also apply).

      • Latest Matric results or Matric certificate
      • Full academic record (if currently studying)
      • Proof of admission or registration from a registered tertiary institution
      • Proof of residence (from your local municipality, less than 3 months old)
      • Parents’ or guardians’ ID documents
      • Proof of household income (latest payslips, affidavit, or grant/pension proof)
      • Details of any other bursary or sponsorship received, if applicable

    Note: Applications submitted via fax or hand delivery will not be accepted.
