Job Responsibilities
Interns will be expected to assist in various agricultural research projects while performing routine activities under supervision. These tasks include:
- Assisting in Research Projects: Interns will play a crucial role in supporting research projects, contributing to the planning, execution, and data collection of agricultural trials, particularly in the areas of crop science, soil science, and agronomy.
- Field Work: Interns will need to work outdoors for extended periods, ensuring that all research activities are carried out effectively. This includes tasks like planting, maintaining, and evaluating field trials.
- Supervising Temporary Workers: Interns will help coordinate work activities and supervise temporary workers when necessary, ensuring that all tasks are performed in line with the project goals.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Interns will be tasked with collecting, capturing, and analyzing research data, under the supervision of experienced researchers. Accurate and efficient data handling will be critical.
- Feedback and Reporting: Interns will be expected to provide regular feedback on their activities, both verbally and in writing, ensuring that supervisors are kept informed of their progress.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Interns must adhere to all health and safety guidelines, ensuring a safe working environment for themselves and their colleagues.
Job Requirements
To be considered for the internship, candidates must meet the following qualifications and skills:
- National Diploma in Agriculture: Specializing in areas like Crop Science, Soil Science, or Agronomy is essential.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are required to report on research activities and collaborate effectively within a team.
- Independent Worker: While the internship is supervised, interns must be self-motivated and capable of working independently on assigned tasks.
- Valid Driver’s License: A valid South African driver’s license is a must, as fieldwork may require transportation.
- Experience in Research Trials: While not essential, prior experience conducting agricultural research field trials will be considered an advantage.
- Physical Fitness: The role involves physical work in the field, so a good level of physical fitness is required.
- Learning Ability: The internship provides a valuable learning opportunity, and candidates should demonstrate a strong ability to learn new skills quickly.
