Durban’s Water Operations Department is seeking a skilled Artisan (Plumber) (Level II) to join their team in the Water Network branch. Key Responsibilities
The successful artisan plumber will be responsible for:
1. Coordinating Plumbing Installations and Repairs
The role involves interpreting technical drawings and site requirements, ensuring that installation and repair activities are executed efficiently. The artisan plumber will organize materials, provide guidelines, and ensure that plumbing tasks align with pre-work specifications.
2. Maintaining Water Supply Systems
The artisan plumber will oversee maintenance tasks to keep the water supply infrastructure functional. This includes ensuring that water control valves, pipes, and distribution components are in good working order.
3. Troubleshooting and Fault Finding
An essential part of the job includes diagnosing faults in the water network. The artisan plumber will coordinate the troubleshooting process to identify and resolve control valve failures affecting the water supply.
4. Ensuring Compliance with Safety Standards
Workplace safety is a priority. The artisan plumber will enforce safety regulations, ensure the use of protective gear, and adhere to municipal guidelines for safe water system operations.
5. Documenting and Reporting on Work Done
The role requires the artisan plumber to complete time sheets, log sheets, progress reports, vehicle checklists, and productivity reports to ensure accountability and efficient service delivery.

Essential Requirements
To qualify for this artisan plumber position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Trade Tested Artisan (Plumber) qualification.
- Basic First Aid and Basic Safety Certificate.
- Valid motor vehicle driver’s license (Code C1).
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
- Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience.
Preferred Requirement: 4 years of relevant post-qualification experience will be advantageous.
Work Conditions and Special Requirements
The artisan plumber will be required to:
- Work in all weather conditions.
- Be available for emergency callouts and planned overtime.
- Work outside normal hours when necessary.
- Work on a shift basis if required.
Remuneration and Benefits
