    City of Cape Town Training and Development Opportunities Available

    1. Skills Programme – Fixed Term Contract

    This program is designed for candidates with educational qualifications ranging from Grade 10 to N5 or Level 2-4. It aims to provide practical exposure and structured experiential learning opportunities.

    Requirements:

    • Grade 10/11/National Senior Certificate (Grade 12/Matric)
    • N1-N5/Level 2-4

    2. Work Integrated Learning (WIL) – Fixed Term Contract

    This program is for students requiring in-service training to complete their National Certificate – N6. It integrates academic learning with practical application in the workplace, a requirement for obtaining a formal qualification.

    Requirements:

    • National Certificate – N6
    • Letter from the Institution requesting WIL (In-service training)
    • Transcript (Academic results)

    3. Graduate Internship Programme (GIP) – Fixed Term Contract

    Graduate students who have completed their qualifications at an Institution of Higher Learning (University or University of Technology) can apply for this program. It facilitates skills transfer through either part-time or full-time internships.

    Requirements:

    • 3-year Diploma/National Diploma, Advanced Diploma, B-Tech, Degree, Honours, Masters, or PhD from a registered University or University of Technology.

    4. Learnerships (12 to 24 months)

    This vocational education and training program links structured learning with work experience to obtain a registered qualification. It combines theory and workplace practice and is registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

    Requirements:

    • Grade 12 (additional requirements may vary depending on the type of Learnership)

    Key Performance Areas

    The City of Cape Town aims to train numerous recruits across various programs, enhancing their skills and significantly improving their employment prospects in various industry sectors. These opportunities are available to students permanently residing within the jurisdiction of Cape Town. Preference will be given to graduates from local universities, technical universities, colleges, and TVET colleges.

    Special Conditions

    • Students must not be enrolled in further studies coinciding with the internship program training period, except for the Work Integrated Learning Programme, PhD, and Doctoral Programme.
    • Completion of the program does not guarantee employment.
    • Allowances provided:
    • Graduate Internship Programme (GIP): R51.73 per hour
    • Work Integrated Learning (WIL): R32.91 per hour
    • Skills: R32.91 per hour
