Program Details
The Child and Youth Care Workers internship is offered across various regions in South Africa, ensuring that interns can contribute to diverse communities. These locations include:
- KwaZulu-Natal: Childline SA Head Office and Provincial Office in eThekwini, Durban.
- Eastern Cape: Offices in Kokstad, Bizana, Ntabankulu, Umzimvubu, Matatiele, and Buffalo City Metro.
- Limpopo: Capricorn.
- Mpumalanga: Ehlanzeni, Gert Sibande, and Nkangala.
Each Child and Youth Care Workers internship candidate will receive practical experience in counseling, community engagement, and intervention strategies, directly impacting children and youth.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants for the Child and Youth Care Workers internship must meet the following criteria:
- Age: Must be 35 years or younger.
- Qualifications: A minimum of Level 4 certification in Child and Youth Care Work.
- Registration: Must be registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
- Employment Status: Currently unemployed.
- Program Participation: Must not have participated in a previous HWSETA-funded program, grant, or learnership.
- Skills: Computer literacy and local language proficiency are essential.
- Driving: A valid driver’s license is an added advantage.

Responsibilities and Duties

- Acting as first responders to victims of gender-based violence (GBV).
- Providing containment services to abused individuals.
- Organizing community dialogues and raising awareness about GBV.
- Identifying and responding to GBV cases within local communities.
- Preparing detailed daily, weekly, and monthly reports of activities and interventions.
Interns participating in the Child and Youth Care Workers internship will also be expected to maintain accurate data records and submit weekly work plans to support accountability and transparency.
