Key Responsibilities
As a Dental Assistant, you will be responsible for:
- Clinical Assistance: Supporting dentists in various procedures, ensuring smooth clinical operations according to Intercare’s protocols.
- Hygiene and Sterilization: Ensuring the dental room meets hygiene standards and that sterilization protocols are strictly followed, including managing equipment and instrument cleanliness.
- Patient Administration: Coordinating patient administration processes, including lab work management (e.g., lab slips, collection, and returns).
- Inventory Management: Monitoring and controlling consumable and equipment supplies to ensure efficient and economical use.
- Infection Control: Applying infection control principles and techniques in line with industry standards.
- Documentation: Ensuring proper documentation as per Intercare’s policies and legal requirements, maintaining patient confidentiality, dignity, and safety at all times.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensuring the proper functioning of all equipment, identifying potential risks, and reporting any malfunctions.
Critical Skills and Outputs
- Competency in Dentistry: Working within the scope of practice while staying updated on the latest dental care trends to maintain high competency.
- Accountability: Taking responsibility for decisions and actions, ensuring safe and ethical dental practices.
- Compliance: Adhering to protocols related to sterilization, infection control, medical waste disposal, and legislation.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: Completion of a Grade 12 certificate.
- Training: Approved training in dental assisting or equivalent experience.
- Experience: Prior experience in a customer-focused service environment is advantageous.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Proficient in MS Office and GoodX software (an advantage).
- Understanding of dental terminology and treatment codes used in advanced dentistry procedures.
- Familiarity with dental healthcare environments and infection control principles.
- Certification: Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Registered Dental Assistant.
