Key Role Responsibilities
The Desktop Support Engineer will focus on delivering essential technological support and ensuring smooth operational functionality across SANBI’s offices. The candidate will play a key role in:
- Providing robust user support for desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, VOIP phones, and other related equipment for in-office and remote environments.
- Monitoring and improving the performance of SANBI’s desktop infrastructure.
- Reporting and resolving issues related to user needs, including both hardware and software support.
- Extending IT support services to regional offices as required.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must meet the following educational and professional criteria:
- A National Diploma or Advanced Certificate in Information Technology, Computer Sciences, or equivalent (NQF 6) with at least 4 years of relevant work experience;
OR - An Advanced Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Sciences, or equivalent qualification (NQF 7) with at least 2 years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualification: A postgraduate qualification in Information Technology, Computer Sciences, or equivalent (NQF 8) will be an added advantage.
Competencies and Skills
To excel in this role, the ideal candidate should possess:
- Experience in supporting computer hardware and peripherals, software applications, remote connection systems, and mobile device management.
- Advanced planning, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- The ability to work effectively under pressure in diverse team environments while maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Extensive knowledge of legislation, policies, and practices related to IT support and services.
- Strong financial report writing and communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Proficiency in MS Office tools, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Outlook, and Internet applications.
- A valid driver’s licence with at least one year of practical driving experience.
- Willingness to travel as required.
