    Security Officer Job Purpose and Responsibilities

    The primary role of the Security Officer is to manage and execute key security functions aimed at protecting Council assets, personnel, and installations. Officers will monitor and control access points, ensuring only authorized individuals—such as officials, politicians, and registered visitors—are allowed entry, while keeping out suspicious or unauthorized individuals, including unverified contractors.

    Daily responsibilities include patrolling premises, monitoring surveillance systems, responding to emergencies, and supporting the Joint Operations unit when needed. Candidates must show vigilance and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.

    Position Details and Remuneration

    This full-time position falls under Task Level 05 with a competitive salary ranging from R276,057.93 to R334,594.94 per annum. This salary is inclusive of all benefits under the total cost to company model.

    Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

    To be considered for the Security Officer role, applicants must meet the following selection criteria:

    • Grade 12 certificate
    • PSIRA Grade C registration
    • Peace Officer training, certification, and appointment

    In addition, candidates should demonstrate:

    • At least 2 years of relevant experience in a similar security role
    • High responsibility and attention to detail
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills
    • Fluency in at least two official Western Cape languages (one of which must be English)
