    Purpose of the Electrical Engineer Role

    The primary goal of this role is to produce high-quality technical outputs that meet all requirements from clients, adhere to relevant codes and standards, and follow the internal engineering processes.     Key Responsibilities

    As a successful candidate, you will be tasked with a range of duties that involve low-voltage (LV) and medium-voltage (MV) systems engineering. This includes conceptual and detailed design for various electrical systems and networks. Some of the key performance areas include:

    • LV and MV Systems Engineering: Involves conceptual and detailed designs, including development for electrical systems and networks.
    • Industrial Plant Electrical Design: Design and execute electrical systems for industrial plants, including LV and MV Motor Control Centres.
    • DC Plant Design: Design battery and DC plant systems, particularly for power generation facilities.
    • Renewable Energy System Design: Work on the design and specification of renewable energy systems.
    • Electrical Switchgear and Motor Protection Equipment: Specify and design these key components for industrial settings.
    • Protection Systems Design: Create and implement robust protection systems to ensure the integrity and safety of electrical systems.
    • Cable Network and Distribution Systems: Design and manage large-scale electrical cable networks.
    • Lighting and Small Power Designs: Ensure that lighting and small power systems are designed according to project specifications.
    • Compliance with South African Grid Code: Ensure that all designs are fully compliant with the South African Grid Code.

    In addition to design work, you will be responsible for overseeing the procurement and installation process, including managing tender documentation and participating in project cost estimations. You will also be involved in tender evaluations, fabrication phase assistance, and system testing and commissioning. Mentorship of junior engineers is also a key part of this role, so leadership and coaching skills are vital.

    Requirements

    To qualify for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

    • BSc (Eng) or B Eng degree in Electrical Engineering.
    • Professional Engineer registration with ECSA.
    • At least 5 years of relevant multidisciplinary project design experience, especially in the Power Generation Industry.
    • Familiarity with OHS Act and Regulations, Environmental Legislation, and SANS & IEC codes.
    • Knowledge of Safety Management Standards and ISO 9001.
    • Experience working with the South African Grid Code.

    Competencies

    Lesedi is looking for a highly skilled individual who can communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally. You must possess strong technical report-writing skills and be proficient in using Microsoft Office. Familiarity with ETAP or DigSilent will be a significant advantage.
