    Job Overview

    The ICT Support role focuses on responding to and resolving incidents related to applications and associated equipment used in the workplace. The selected candidates will assist users in effectively utilizing systems and equipment while supporting service delivery functions such as computer operations and the service desk.

    Support involves investigating, identifying, and conducting root cause analysis of problems, providing critical information about systems, and escalating unresolved issues to meet defined service level requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    Desktop Support

    • Efficiently address, evaluate, and prioritize logged assistance requests from users for a catalog of service-related issues.
    • Log and track support calls using the institution’s incident and problem management database, ensuring all actions are documented.
    • Conduct problem recognition, research, isolation, and resolution of routine user issues, escalating more complex problems to the Senior ICT Support team.

    Software and Hardware Installations

    • Install desktop and laptop computers for campus use, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary authorized software and completing related documentation.
    • Set up hardware and peripherals, including monitors, keyboards, printers, and disk drives, as needed.
    • Provide support for boardrooms and training setups, ensuring all necessary technology is functional.
    • Regularly test video conferencing and IT equipment, addressing any technical issues proactively.

    Administrative Functions

    • Liaise with service providers to ensure timely repairs and maintenance of IT equipment.
    • Update and maintain the hardware and software asset register, ensuring asset disposals are documented appropriately.
    • Administer software licenses, ensuring compliance with licensing requirements.
    • Maintain the storeroom, server room, and IT office spaces, adhering to health and safety standards.
    • Train and orient staff on hardware and software usage to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Educational Requirements

    Candidates are required to possess one of the following qualifications:

    • Higher Certificate or Occupational Certificate (NQF Level 5) in fields like A+ or N+
    • Advanced Certificate, Diploma, or Occupational Certificate (NQF Level 6) in areas like CCNA1, MCSE, or MCTIP

    Experience

    • Completion of an internship or a minimum of one year of job experience in a relevant field is mandatory.
