Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate for the Music and Visual Arts Teacher will be responsible for:
- Teaching Class Music in the Prep School with a focus on both theory and practical skills.
- Leading and participating in choral work and marimba performances, adding a dynamic aspect to the school’s music culture.
- Teaching Visual Arts to Grade 6 and 7 learners, fostering creativity and artistic expression.
- Developing comprehensive lesson plans that cater to the diverse learning needs of students.
- Organizing musical events, workshops, and art exhibitions that showcase student talents.
- Collaborating with other educators to integrate arts into the overall curriculum.
- Communicating effectively with parents regarding students’ progress and development in music and arts.
- Performing administrative duties associated with managing a music and visual arts programme.
Minimum Requirements
The ideal candidate should have:
- At least 5 years of teaching experience in Music, with a preference for candidates who can also teach Visual Arts.
- Strong leadership qualities and a collaborative approach to working with both students and staff.
- A relevant academic qualification in music education.
- Experience and proficiency as a pianist.
- Experience in complementary musical teaching such as music theory.
- A SACE (South African Council for Educators) certification.
- A valid police clearance certificate.
Preferred Skills and Attributes
- Ability to conduct choral work and work with marimbas.
- Enthusiasm for promoting the formal learning of music in a school environment.
