Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation and Dispensing of Medication: You will assist the pharmacist in preparing prescriptions, selecting the correct medications, labelling them, and dispensing them to patients, ensuring accuracy and adherence to pharmacy regulations.
- Compounding of Medications: Under the supervision of the pharmacist, you will be tasked with compounding, manipulating, or preparing both non-sterile and sterile medications or scheduled substances, following standard operating procedures.
- Stock Control and Distribution: Your duties will include distributing and controlling stock for Schedule 1 to Schedule 2 medications and unscheduled substances. You will dispense stock to hospital wards, discharged patients, and fill in-hospital prescriptions under pharmacist supervision.
- Packaging and Re-packaging: You will also assist in packaging and re-packaging medications under pharmacist oversight, ensuring that all medications are dispensed in properly labelled containers.
- Stock Management and Audits: Conducting cyclical counts in designated areas and completing stock reports and audits will be an essential part of your role. You will also be involved in the receipt of stock according to standard procedures.
- Health Advice and Information: A crucial part of your job will involve providing health advice, information, and pharmacy products directly to the consumer, ensuring they are well-informed about their medication and how to use it safely.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
To qualify for this role, you will need the following:
- Educational Requirements: Grade 12 or equivalent level of education.
- Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant Certificate: Completion of the necessary certification to work as a post-basic pharmacist assistant.
- SAPC Registration: You must have current registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
- Experience:
- 1 to 2 years of hospital experience is required.
- Retail pharmacy experience is advantageous.
- Previous healthcare experience will be beneficial.
Additional Skills:
- Comprehensive Knowledge of SAP or related platforms.
- Advanced Level of Computer Literacy: Familiarity with electronic systems for stock management and reporting.
