    Minimum Requirements

    Education:

    • NQF Level 6: National Diploma in Chemistry or Natural Sciences
    • Registration as a Candidate for Professional Registration

    Desired Education:

    • NQF Level 7: BSc/BTech in Chemistry, Water Care, or Chemical Engineering
    • Two years of experience in a drinking water treatment laboratory
    • Code B driver’s license with the ability to pass Rand Water’s driver competency test

    Primary Duties

    • Conduct specialized and complex analytical tests on water and solid samples
    • Perform chemical and physical analyses for various projects
    • Plan and execute technical evaluations of water treatment chemicals according to established procedures
    • Compile chemical evaluation reports
    • Assist with feasibility studies for new research projects
    • Implement and manage laboratory quality systems
    • Identify, investigate, document, and report non-conforming results
    • Approve results in relevant databases
    • Prepare chemicals as per procedures
    • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and instrumentation
    • Train staff to ensure competency in methods
    • Update laboratory methods in line with QMS requirements
    • Validate and verify laboratory methods and instruments
    • Implement ISO 17025 accreditation system
    • Adhere to legal and Rand Water safety, health, environment, and quality standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 18001

    Knowledge

    • Understanding of drinking water or wastewater treatment
    • Knowledge of drinking water analysis
    • Familiarity with ISO 17025, ISO 19001, and ISO 14001
    • Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
    • Awareness of water-related research and development environments
    • Working knowledge of statistics
    • Good grasp of laboratory operations
