The role, based within the KZN Division’s Durban Business Unit, is designed for a mid-senior level professional passionate about workplace health and safety.     Key Responsibilities of the Role

    The primary purpose of this role is to enforce safety regulations and compliance standards on designated contracts, ensuring that both the company and its clients adhere to occupational health and safety laws. The core duties include:

    1. SHE Compliance and Reporting

    • Developing and maintaining health and safety files for assigned contracts.
    • Compiling and submitting SHE reports to the Operations Manager and relevant client representatives.
    • Conducting regular risk assessments and creating Safe Work Procedures and Planned Task Observations to ensure that all work is performed safely.

    2. Workplace Safety Monitoring

    • Ensuring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), legal appointments, competencies, firefighting equipment, and medical compliance are monitored and up to date.
    • Carrying out Planned Task Observations to assess and improve safe working practices.
    • Investigating and reporting incidents and ensuring proper follow-up actions are implemented.

    3. Inspections and Safety Committee Management

    • Conducting regular SHE site inspections and updating registers, checklists, and training matrices.
    • Attending client safety meetings to ensure alignment with their safety expectations.
    • Establishing and managing the Prestige site safety committee, including chairing quarterly meetings, recording minutes, and ensuring actions are followed up.

    4. SHE Training and Awareness

    • Engaging site employees in SHE communication and awareness initiatives.
    • Delivering informal training sessions, toolbox talks, and sharing incident lessons learned to reinforce safety consciousness on site.
    • Acting as a subject matter expert, guiding employees on best safety practices.

    Required Qualifications and Skills

    To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

    Educational Background and Certifications

    • A Matric (Senior Certificate) is mandatory.
    • A valid South African driver’s license is essential.
    • Certifications in SAMTRAC, Incident Investigation, Legal Liability, Fall Protection Plan Development, Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA), and Root Cause Analysis are required.
    • Knowledge of Bidvest Prestige’s activities across various industries is beneficial.

    Technical Skills

    • Strong proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook (Intermediate skill level required).
    • Thorough understanding of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases (COID) Act.
    • Familiarity with South African National Standards (SANS) related to Bidvest Prestige service offerings.
