Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the Senior Software Development Engineer, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Education: An undergraduate qualification (NQF 7) in Computer Science or ICT, recognized by SAQA.
- Experience: At least five years at senior management level in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting UNIX/Linux environments.
- Technical Skills:
- Administration and performance tuning of application stacks (e.g., Tomcat, JBoss, Apache, Ruby, NGINX).
- Cloud, virtualization, and containerization technologies (e.g., VMware, Virtual Box).
- Monitoring systems and automation software (e.g., Puppet, cfengine, Chef).
- Knowledge of OSI network layers, TCP/IP, data architecture, and programming.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate for the Senior Software Development Engineer will be responsible for the following duties:
- System Management: Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure to ensure the highest levels of availability.
- Support and Maintenance: Support the installation, configuration, testing, and maintenance of operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor and test application performance, identify bottlenecks, and work with developers to implement solutions.
- Security and Backup: Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies for NHI IS Infrastructure.
- Automation: Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and reduce human intervention time.
Remuneration
- Total Package: R1,371,558 per annum
- Package Breakdown: 70% basic salary, State’s contribution to the Government Employees Pension Fund (13% of basic salary), and a flexible portion structured according to the Senior Management Service guidelines.
