This position is focused on assisting dental professionals in performing both general and specialist dentistry procedures, as well as managing patient administration.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Grade 12 certificate
    • Completion of an approved dental assisting training course or equivalent training and experience
    • Previous experience in a customer-focused service environment is advantageous
    • Computer proficiency (MS Office)
    • Knowledge of general dentistry principles, practices, and procedures
    • Advanced dental terminology knowledge
    • Basic understanding of the dental healthcare environment
    • Good knowledge and application of infection control and sterilization techniques
    • Knowledge of dental treatment codes for advanced procedures
    • Experience with specialized dental procedures
    • GoodX experience is advantageous
    • Registration with the HPCSA as a Registered Dental Assistant

    Key Responsibilities

    • Scope of Practice: Stay updated with current trends and advances in dental assisting to maintain a high competency level.
    • Accountability: Take personal responsibility for decisions and actions during care delivery.
    • Hygiene and Sterilization: Ensure the dental room meets hygienic standards and adhere to sterilization and infection control protocols.
    • Clinical Assistance: Assist the dentist in all clinical procedures according to branch protocols.
    • Laboratory Coordination: Manage laboratory work including lab slips, collections, returns, and casting.
    • Consumables and Equipment Management: Monitor and control the availability and economical use of consumables and equipment in the dental room.
    • Safety and Documentation: Address and resolve safety concerns, ensure proper documentation, maintain patient confidentiality, dignity, and safety.
    • Waste Disposal: Dispose of medical waste, human tissue, and medicine in accordance with legislation.
    • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure efficient functioning of equipment and report any failures that could pose risks to patients or staff.
