The Department of Water and Sanitation is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Engineer Production Grade A-C (Mechanical) in the Branch: Infrastructure Management, Southern Operations, Dir Operations Southern (Water Resources Infrastructure Operations and Maintenance).

Requirements
To be eligible for this position, candidates must meet the following qualifications and experience:
Engineer Production Educational Qualifications
- A Mechanical Engineering degree (B Eng/BSc Eng) or a relevant qualification.
Professional Experience
To qualify for the Engineer Production, applicants must have the following experience:
- A minimum of three (3) years of post-qualification engineering experience.
- Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineer.
- A valid, unexpired driver’s license.
Knowledge and Skills
Applicants for the Engineer Production position must have the following skills and knowledge:
- Knowledge of water resources infrastructure operations, hydrology, supply chain management, contractual and legal requirements, and business planning.
- Ability to design new systems to solve practical engineering challenges, improve efficiency, and enhance safety.
- Strong evaluation skills to ensure that planning and design are conducted according to sound engineering principles.
- Experience in managing the maintenance of mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
- Ability to develop cost-effective solutions according to standards.
- Experience in evaluating existing technical manuals, standard drawings, and procedures to incorporate new technology.
- Skills in managing resources and preparing inputs for resource utilization facilitation.
- Ability to monitor and control expenditure.
Duties
The successful candidate for the Engineer Production will be responsible for the following duties:
- Infrastructure Maintenance:
- Manage the maintenance of mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
- Ensure that maintenance activities are conducted efficiently and effectively to maintain operational standards.
- System Design and Improvement:
- Design new systems to solve practical engineering challenges.
- Improve efficiency and enhance safety within the operations.
- Develop cost-effective solutions according to established standards.
- Technical Evaluation:
- Evaluate existing technical manuals, standard drawings, and procedures.
- Incorporate new technology into existing systems.
- Ensure that planning and design by others adhere to sound engineering principles.
- Training and Development:
- Ensure the training and development of technicians, technologists, and candidate engineers.
- Facilitate the growth and professional development of the team.
- Resource Management:
- Manage resources effectively.
- Prepare and consolidate inputs for the facilitation of resource utilization.
- Monitor and control expenditure to ensure cost-effective operations.
