Job Purpose
The main responsibility of the Diesel Mechanic 5 is to ensure that all vehicles, cranes, construction plants, and lifting equipment under Steinmuller Africa’s management are in safe working condition. This includes maintaining proper certification in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and ensuring that all equipment is serviced, repaired, and maintained efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
As a Diesel Mechanic 5, you will be responsible for a range of maintenance and repair tasks aimed at ensuring the smooth operation of fleet vehicles, cranes, and other construction-related equipment. Some of the key performance areas (KPAs) include:
1. Planned Maintenance
- Assist in creating and implementing a maintenance plan that includes checklists for each type of vehicle, crane, and equipment in the fleet.
- Help develop a preventative maintenance schedule for vehicles, cranes, and equipment.
- Prioritize maintenance activities to ensure timely servicing and inspection.
- Ensure that all vehicles and cranes are serviced and maintained according to the schedule and checklists.
2. Emergency Repairs
- Assess and prioritize emergency repairs for vehicles and equipment.
- Work closely with management, site managers, and clients to determine vehicle availability and replacements during emergencies.
3. Compliance and Control
- Control the quality of maintenance and repair activities to ensure client satisfaction.
- Conduct regular vehicle and crane inspections to improve fleet reliability.
- Oversee inspections after repairs are completed and ensure compliance with the Company’s Quality Management System (QMS).
4. Administration and Cost Control
- Provide technical advice and assistance to the Manager.
- Seek cost-effective solutions for vehicle maintenance.
- Keep accurate service and repair records and control maintenance costs.
- Expedite orders and spares as necessary.
5. Safety Management
- Conduct weekly and monthly inspections to ensure safety.
- Participate in daily toolbox talks.
- Assist with creating task risk assessments and written Safe Work Procedures for various tasks.
- Report and investigate any incidents or unsafe conditions.
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act), regulations, and company procedures.
