Driver Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this role is to provide effective and efficient motor vehicle driver services to the Council for Geoscience and its business units. This includes transporting passengers, delivering items such as mail, documents, and parcels, and ensuring these tasks are performed in line with established policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
As a driver, you will be entrusted with various responsibilities, including:
- Operations Management: Ensure effective and efficient motor vehicle driver services by driving light and medium motor vehicles to transport CGS staff, stakeholders, and deliver goods.
- Timely Transportation: Execute daily transportation schedules efficiently, ensuring that all collections and deliveries are performed on time.
- Traffic and Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to traffic rules, regulations, and safety requirements, ensuring a safe and smooth journey.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct pre and post-trip inspections of vehicles, maintaining them in a roadworthy condition and addressing any required maintenance.
- Documentation: Complete all required records and logbooks related to vehicle usage and goods handled promptly and accurately.
- Communication: Liaise with stakeholders and the Manager/Supervisor: Facilities Management regarding any changes or issues that arise during the transportation process.
- Support Services: Assist with the delivery and collection of vehicles for maintenance, and support CGS operational needs outside of normal working hours when required.

Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Requirements: A minimum of Grade 10.
- Driver’s License: A valid Code 10/C1 driver’s license with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
- Experience: At least 6 months of related experience as a driver.
- Vehicle Knowledge: Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and the ability to conduct routine inspections.
- Navigation Skills: Ability to read and interpret maps, directions, and operate a GPS.
- Understanding of Liabilities: Knowledge of the responsibilities and liabilities associated with driving and transporting passengers.
- Administrative Skills: Familiarity with administrative and clerical procedures relevant to the role.
