    The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls is a world-class boarding school designed to provide holistic education and leadership development for young women from Grades 8 to 12. The school accommodates just over 300 students, and its Grade 12 students undertake the Independent Examination Board (IEB) NSC Examinations. The Academy is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of women leaders who will make meaningful contributions to South Africa and beyond.

    Position Overview

    OWLAG is looking for an experienced English Home Language Teacher who can deliver high-quality education and uphold the institution’s values. The ideal candidate must be able to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment while being actively involved in the broader life of the Academy. As part of a committed academic team, the selected teacher will help to inspire, mentor, and guide students in their academic and personal development.

    Key Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

    • Curriculum Delivery: Teach English Home Language to Grades 8 to 12, mapping the curriculum in alignment with academic standards.
    • Classroom Management: Create a positive learning environment conducive to student success.
    • Student Support: Identify and address learning gaps and deficits, ensuring each student reaches their full potential.
    • Technology Integration: Effectively incorporate technology in teaching to enhance learning outcomes.
    • Extracurricular Involvement: Commit to participating in and contributing to the Academy’s extracurricular activities.
    • Values Integration: Promote and embody the school’s core values—Respect, Honour, Compassion, Service, Responsibility, and Accountability—in daily interactions and teaching.

    Desired Experience & Qualifications

    • Minimum Requirements:
      • A Bachelor’s degree in Education or relevant degree specialization in English Home Language.
      • Proof of registration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE).
      • 3-5 years of experience in a similar teaching position, with a proven track record of curriculum delivery.
    • Preferred Experience:
      • Prior teaching experience with either the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) or the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is advantageous.
      • Experience in marking or moderation within the IEB framework.
      • Familiarity with the Neurosequential Model in Education (NME) or willingness to learn and implement NME principles in teaching.
