General Worker Job Description
As a General Worker at Grain Field Chickens, you will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness, inspecting machinery, and assisting in maintenance tasks around the DAF unit, feather area, sump area, and other sections of the abattoir. The role is physically demanding but provides a platform to develop critical skills and grow within the VKB Group.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities for this position include:
- Cleaning the DAF unit, feather press, sump pit, and feather area.
- Ensuring equipment is properly washed and reporting damaged or broken machines to shift controllers.
- Inspecting broken shackles and yokes during airline chiller start-ups.
- Reporting machine failures promptly during production.
- Assisting in replacing plucker fingers during weekend maintenance.
- Ensuring valves, scrapers, screens, and pumps are in working condition.
- Preparing the sump pit room, feather area, and water sieve unit for daily start-up operations.
Requirements
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- A Grade 12 certificate or NQF Level 4 Equivalent.
- Ability to work in a warm environment with strong smells (feathers, blood).
- Physically fit and able to stand for long periods.
- Willingness to work overtime, including shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Skills and Attributes
- Understanding of production processes.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures, including the proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
- Team-oriented with strong communication skills.
