    Job Overview

    The ICT Support role focuses on providing technical assistance, maintaining the IT infrastructure, and ensuring smooth operations across the Sandton campus. As an ICT Support, your primary responsibilities will include desktop support, software and hardware installations, and handling various IT administrative tasks. You will work closely with staff, students, and lecturers, addressing their technical needs and ensuring that all equipment functions optimally to support the learning environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    Desktop Support

    • Handling User Requests: You will respond to, evaluate, and prioritize support requests from users who need assistance with services related to the campus IT systems. This includes logging and tracking calls through the service desk system.
    • Problem Management: You’ll be tasked with identifying, isolating, and resolving common user issues. For undefined problems, you’ll refer these to the Senior ICT Support team for further action.
    • General IT Support: You will be responsible for providing essential IT support to the campus community, including students, lecturers, and administrative staff.

    Software and Hardware Installations

    • System Installations: You will install and configure desktop and laptop computers, ensuring they are set up with the authorized software and peripherals such as monitors, printers, and keyboards.
    • Venue Setup and Support: You will support ICT setups in campus venues for lectures, exams, or training sessions. Regular checks and maintenance of equipment like PCs, audio-visual gear, and office automation equipment will also be part of your role.

    Information Technology Administrative Functions

    • Vendor Management: You will liaise with service providers for maintenance of IT equipment.
    • Asset Management: You will maintain the ICT asset register, keep track of equipment, and manage the necessary documentation for procurement and disposals.
    • Storeroom and Server Maintenance: Ensuring that the storeroom, server room, and IT office are kept neat, organized, and free from safety hazards will be part of your daily tasks.
    • Software Management: Administering and maintaining campus software in line with the agreed software list.

    Competencies and Skills Required

    • Interpersonal Skills: You must be able to work effectively with diverse groups of people and communicate clearly and confidently.
    • Technical Proficiency: A sound understanding of IT systems, particularly in desktop support, hardware, and software installations, is essential.
    • Time Management: The ability to handle multiple requests and manage your time efficiently is crucial in this role.
    • Problem-Solving Skills: You will be expected to take initiative and demonstrate a strong capacity for troubleshooting and resolving issues.
    • Adaptability: The ability to cope in a high-pressure environment and meet the demands of a busy academic campus is important.

    Minimum Education Requirements

    • NQF Level 5 (Higher Certificate/ Occupational Certificate) in A+/N+.
    • NQF Level 6 (Advanced Certificate/ Diploma/Occupational Certificate) in CCNA1, MCSE, or MCTIP would be advantageous.

    Minimum Work Experience

    • At least 1 year of experience in ICT, with a focus on technical support, troubleshooting, and user assistance.

    Special Requirements

    • Driver’s License: In cases where public transport is not available, a driver’s license is required.
    • Shift Flexibility: Willingness to work within the required ICT shift structure and working hours.
