Junior Lecturer Purpose
The purpose of this Junior Lecturer position is to teach and develop Graphic/Multimedia Design modules, contribute to curricular revision, engage in scholarly work, and provide study guidance to students. The successful candidate will also secure industry and community projects for collaboration, enhancing the teaching and learning environment for the subject group.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning:
- Teach and develop Graphic/Multimedia Design modules from first to fourth year level.
- Utilize research to guide and facilitate first to fourth year graphic design projects.
- Contribute to the research requirements of the research niche associated with the Graphic Design subject group.
- Secure industry and/or community projects for collaboration.
- Organize projects to enrich the teaching and learning environment.
- Curriculum Development: Contribute to curricular revisions to reflect the latest trends in the field and expand the subject group.
- Scholarly Work: Participate in research projects with colleagues.
- Study Guidance: Provide study guidance to graduate students at the honours and masters levels (for lecturers).
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Handle administrative tasks related to teaching and learning.
- Develop and update study guides.
- Administer student marks and assessments.
- Share responsibilities for committee and department assignments.
- Participate in services related to the life of the School and the community.
Minimum Requirements
- Educational Qualifications:
- Master’s degree (NQF level 9) for the lecturer position or a 4-year honours degree (NQF level 8) for a junior lecturer with significant industry experience in Graphic Design.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in teaching and learning.
- Minimum of 5 years’ practical experience as a Graphic Designer.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Audition, Character Animate) and 3D software (Blender/Cinema 4D/Maya).
- Proficiency within an Apple MAC Studio environment.
Added Advantage
- Experience within a higher education environment.
- Experience in industry-related environments.
Competencies
Functional/Technical:
- Knowledge of theoretical and practical expertise in graphic design.
- Understanding of the broad Graphic Design discipline and visual communications industry.
- Proficiency in liaising with industry and public.

- Adherence to ethical principles.
