Purpose of the Laboratory Attendant Role
The primary goal of the Laboratory Attendant role is to ensure efficient sample preparation for accurate performance monitoring within the organisation. This involves critical laboratory procedures like crushing, splitting, filtering, and sample management, supporting Minopex’s commitment to precision and excellence in mining operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
As a Laboratory Attendant, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Sample Preparation:
- Performing routine sample preparation tasks, including crushing, pulverizing, filtering, rolling, splitting, and drying samples.
- Completing sample checklists and logging samples into the system.
- Analyses and Quality Checks:
- Conducting sieve sizing analyses on samples during preparation.
- Inspecting and performing first-line fault finding on sampling equipment.
- Laboratory Maintenance:
- Cleaning laboratory equipment and addressing spillages.
- Inspecting balances at the Fire Assay section daily and ensuring cleanliness.
- Furnace and HT Operations:
- Loading and offloading furnaces during the Fire Assay process.
- Weighing final Prills post-HT process and preparing 6E samples (NIS).
- Storage and Record-Keeping:
- Storing samples per specifications and maintaining proper housekeeping standards.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills
To be considered for the position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate is mandatory.
- Valid Driver’s License is required.
Experience and Skills:
- At least 1 year of experience in sample preparation within a laboratory.
- Understanding of basic sample preparation principles, such as contamination control, representative sampling, and the Fire Assay process.
- Proficient in the English language.
- Strong time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
