Requirements
To be considered for the Learner Surveyor position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Background:
- Minimum of Grade 11 or equivalent qualification.
- Mathematics and Science subjects will be advantageous.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Basic numeracy skills are essential.
- Good interpersonal communication skills are essential.
- Competency B Certificate from MQA (Mining Qualifications Authority).
- Proficiency in English and any other of South Africa’s 11 official languages.
- Computer literacy and familiarity with MRM (Mine Resource Management) or survey systems will be an added advantage.
- Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in a mining environment or previous work experience in a survey or sampling department will be an advantage.
- Ability to read and interpret mine working plans will be beneficial.
- Additional Requirements:
- Studying towards a qualification in Mine Surveying will be advantageous.
- South African citizenship.
- Clear criminal record.
- Flexibility to work on Sundays and public holidays.
Key Responsibilities
The Learner Surveyor will be responsible for a range of activities that contribute to the efficient functioning of the Survey Department. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the survey team with both underground and surface measuring tasks.
- Assisting the surveyor with the installation of survey pegs and grade pegs.
- Reading and interpreting tape measures accurately.
- Carrying, cleaning, and maintaining survey equipment.
- Following instructions from supervisors responsible for the shift.
- Conducting all work according to required standards and specifications.
- Adhering to the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) standards and Gold One’s safety motto: “Nothing is so important that it cannot be done safely”.
