    Requirements

    To be considered for the Learner Surveyor position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

    1. Educational Background:
      • Minimum of Grade 11 or equivalent qualification.
      • Mathematics and Science subjects will be advantageous.
    2. Skills and Competencies:
      • Basic numeracy skills are essential.
      • Good interpersonal communication skills are essential.
      • Competency B Certificate from MQA (Mining Qualifications Authority).
      • Proficiency in English and any other of South Africa’s 11 official languages.
      • Computer literacy and familiarity with MRM (Mine Resource Management) or survey systems will be an added advantage.
    3. Experience:
      • 3-5 years of experience in a mining environment or previous work experience in a survey or sampling department will be an advantage.
      • Ability to read and interpret mine working plans will be beneficial.
    4. Additional Requirements:
      • Studying towards a qualification in Mine Surveying will be advantageous.
      • South African citizenship.
      • Clear criminal record.
      • Flexibility to work on Sundays and public holidays.

    Key Responsibilities

    The Learner Surveyor will be responsible for a range of activities that contribute to the efficient functioning of the Survey Department. Key responsibilities include:

    • Supporting the survey team with both underground and surface measuring tasks.
    • Assisting the surveyor with the installation of survey pegs and grade pegs.
    • Reading and interpreting tape measures accurately.
    • Carrying, cleaning, and maintaining survey equipment.
    • Following instructions from supervisors responsible for the shift.
    • Conducting all work according to required standards and specifications.
    • Adhering to the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) standards and Gold One’s safety motto: “Nothing is so important that it cannot be done safely”.
