Legal Aid SA is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Regional Court Legal Practitioner with a specialization in Commercial Crimes to join the Germiston Local Office.     Requirements:

    • Qualifications: Admitted Attorney/Advocate (with successful completion of pupillage from a recognized institution by Legal Aid SA).
    • Education: LLB or B Proc degree.
    • Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ post-admission experience in criminal law.
    • Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, strong analytical abilities, and a team-oriented approach.
    • Additional: A valid code 8 driver’s license is advantageous.

    Key Responsibilities

    Legal Representation:

    • Provide criminal legal aid to clients in Specialized Commercial Crimes Courts.
    • Advocate for clients during court proceedings, ensuring their legal rights are upheld.
    • Conduct thorough legal research to build strong defenses and prosecution strategies.

    Case Management:

    • Handle specialized commercial crimes cases, representing Legal Aid SA’s clients effectively.
    • Develop case strategies and manage all aspects of case preparation, from discovery to court hearings.
    • Maintain accurate and detailed case files and documentation.

    Supervision:

    • Oversee and guide criminal Candidate Attorneys and Paralegals.
    • Provide mentorship and training to junior staff, enhancing their legal skills and knowledge.
    • Review and assess the work of Candidate Attorneys to ensure high-quality legal representation.

    Support:

    • Assist with support and operational tasks in the specialized commercial crime sections of the office.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure smooth operation and coordination of case handling.
    • Engage with other legal professionals and external parties to facilitate case progress.

    Administration:

    • Perform necessary office administrative duties.
    • Ensure timely submission of reports, documentation, and records management.
    • Coordinate with administrative staff to maintain efficient office operations.

    Client Interaction:

    • Maintain regular communication with clients, keeping them informed about their case status.
    • Provide legal advice and guidance to clients on commercial crime-related matters.
    • Address client concerns and questions with empathy and professionalism.

    Community Engagement:

    • Participate in community outreach programs to raise awareness about legal aid services.
