Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of the Marketing Assistant role is to support the Marketing Manager and the broader brand team in developing and maintaining the Sol de Janeiro brand in South Africa. This role requires a proactive approach to utilizing A&P (Advertising & Promotion) investment tools, adapting international strategies, and implementing local marketing initiatives. Success in this role will contribute to expanding the brand’s market share and enhancing its image within the South African cosmetics industry.

Key Responsibilities
Marketing and Brand Support Functions
- Act as a custodian of the Sol de Janeiro brand image in South Africa, ensuring brand equity and integrity are upheld in all communications.
- Collaborate with various teams, including Digital, PR, and Trade Marketing, to understand and support brand goals.
- Propose marketing and branding ideas to the team, ensuring they align with the brand’s image and values.
- Provide ongoing support to the Marketing Manager on brand-specific tasks and projects.
- Maintain efficient and accurate processes to support the Marketing Manager, including:
- Inventory review and reporting.
- Monthly brand performance reports.
- Retailer sales performance and stock reporting.
- Manage the process flow of new products, ensuring proper and timely documentation and compliance.
- Maintain accessible records of all documents, ensuring data is organized and up-to-date.
- Deliver within set deadlines and provide high-quality service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Handle customer and consumer inquiries professionally to maintain a positive brand image.
- Track competitor activities monthly to gain insights and improve the brand’s competitive edge.
- Visit retail stores periodically to gain trade experience and understand customer needs.
Sales Performance
- Review business performance regularly, identifying challenges and growth opportunities.
- Assist in managing inventory to ensure brand stock levels meet organizational standards.
- Support new launches by managing stock levels, coordinating with demand planning, and ensuring effective distribution.
- Monitor retailer performance, SKU sales, PR, and market activities.
- Conduct research to stay informed on competitors, pricing trends, and target market insights.
Stakeholder Engagement and Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure full support for the brand in the local market.
- Coordinate PR activities, including distribution of new launches and reporting on media and digital coverage.
- Work with stakeholders to maximize brand exposure and strengthen the brand’s market presence.
Budget and Financial Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to budget allocations and Return on Investment (ROI) requirements.
- Allocate resources effectively in collaboration with the Marketing Manager and other departments.
Leadership and Cultural Contribution
- Take charge of personal development through a Personal Development Plan (PDP).
- Foster a positive work environment by participating actively in culture initiatives and team-building activities.
- Communicate regularly with the Marketing Manager to discuss areas of improvement and efficiencies.
