The bursary programme primarily targets fields within Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), and the Green Economy. This includes skills related to reducing carbon emissions, increasing energy efficiency, and enhancing natural capital.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Nedbank External Bursary Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- South African Citizenship: Only South African citizens are eligible.
- Financial Need: Applicants must demonstrate proven financial need based on household income.
- Academic Performance:
- A minimum average of 65% in the year of application (Grade 12 or university level).
- A minimum average of 65% in the required subjects aligned with the degree of study.
- Exclusions: Applicants with Mathematics Literacy are not considered.
- University Admission: Applicants must have obtained admission to a South African public university or university of technology for the intended Undergraduate or Honours qualification.
Application Process
To apply for the bursary, the following supporting documents are required:
- Certified ID Copy: A certified copy of the applicant’s South African identity card/document.
- Academic Transcripts:
- Grade 11 final results and mid-year results for current Grade 12 students.
- Grade 12 final results and mid-year results for first-year university students.
- Last academic year results and current mid-year results for continuing university students.
- Financial Checks Affidavit: This affidavit must be signed by the applicant and their parent(s) or guardian(s). Download the affidavit here.
Screening and Shortlisting
Applications will only be considered if submitted online through the provided link. Incomplete applications will be disqualified. The screening process includes:
- Initial Screening: Applications are reviewed and shortlisted based on the qualifying criteria.
- Supporting Documents: Shortlisted applicants must provide additional documentation, including:
- Written consent for verifying income.
- Completed income and expenditure statement for the household.
- Certified copies of identity documents, recent payslips, proof of income, and other relevant financial documents.
- Assessments and Interviews: Shortlisted applicants will undergo psychometric assessments and virtual interviews.
