Key Responsibilities
1. Training and Mentoring
- Forecast and plan mentoring and training activities within the province.
- Train clinical and non-clinical healthcare workers, including Department of Health (DoH) staff, on MSM-related health issues.
- Utilize Standard National Treatment and Mentorship Guidelines to ensure comprehensive and up-to-date support.
2. Technical Support
- Conduct in-service training for healthcare workers on programs specifically designed for the care and treatment of MSM.
- Present articles and case studies at stakeholder meetings to keep teams updated on trends and best practices.
- Supervise enrolled nurses, ensuring quality control through performance tracking and PT assessments.
3. Clinical Management
- Deliver holistic care to MSM through physical examinations, clinical staging, and diagnoses.
- Provide MSM-specific materials such as condoms and sachets of water-based lubricants, ensuring MSM health services are both competent and compassionate.
- Initiate Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Antiretroviral Therapy (ART), tailoring treatment to the specific needs of MSM patients.
- Identify and address barriers to service delivery, ensuring prompt and effective referral systems for advanced MSM-related health issues.
4. Quality Control
- Ensure all healthcare facilities have the necessary guidelines and MSM-specific IEC materials.
- Identify additional training needs at healthcare facilities and organize relevant programs.
- Collaborate with Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) teams to review facility data and provide actionable feedback to improve healthcare services.
5. Stakeholder Management
- Represent Anova Health Institute at district meetings, presenting progress reports and updates on MSM health services.
- Supervise the district outreach team, ensuring all activities align with organizational goals and public health requirements.
6. Other Tasks
- Undertake any additional duties as agreed upon with your line manager, contributing to the overall success of Anova’s health programs.
Requirements
- Registration: Must be a professional nurse registered with the South African Nursing Council.
- NIMART Competency: Non-Initiating Medical ART (NIMART) competence is a key requirement for this role.
- Experience:
- 5-8 years of experience as a professional nurse and/or midwife.
- Experience working with MSM and related health issues.
- Experience working in ART programmes, Comprehensive Care, Management and Treatment (CCMT) programmes, and/or Prevention of Mother-To-Child Transmission (PMTCT).
- Familiarity with issues surrounding HIV/AIDS, STIs, family planning, and immunisation programs.
- Language Skills: Fluent in English, with the ability to communicate effectively in at least one or two vernacular languages commonly spoken in South Africa.
