    Sherq Officer Job Summary

    As a SHERQ Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing the safety, health, environment, risk, and quality assurance aspects of our hospital operations. Your primary role will be to ensure full compliance with health and safety standards, identify and control hospital risks, including infection control, and ensure favorable and safe working conditions for all employees.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and coordinate the annual SHERQ action plan and long-term SHERQ roadmap.
    • Prepare monthly reports on SHERQ progress and present feedback at Group forums.
    • Plan, direct, implement, coordinate, maintain, and evaluate the hospital-wide infection control program.
    • Participate in professional development and educational activities to ensure excellence in Infection Prevention and Control Services.
    • Educate and train all stakeholders on Infection Control and stay current with knowledge regarding infectious diseases.
    • Assist in retaining current quality accreditations and work towards new quality accreditations.
    • Compile reports on all incidents and adverse event investigations and present findings with recommendations to Hospital Management and Head Office.
    • Ensure accurate reporting and compliance with overall legislation and COID.
    • Facilitate various risk assessments (general, manual handling, emergency preparedness, fire prevention) and provide recommendations.
    • Develop and maintain an updated risk register, including actions to mitigate risks, while maintaining accurate reporting and record-keeping of all SHERQ and infection control activities.

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience

    • Nursing degree or diploma
    • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) is mandatory.
    • An Infection Control certificate or expert knowledge in infection control is advantageous.
    • Knowledge of risk management processes is advantageous.
    • Expert knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act).
    • Demonstrated clinical expertise and ability to educate all stakeholders on combating disease transmission.
    • Proficiency in computer skills, including MS Office and SAP or similar systems.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Perform all duties in compliance with SANC, Department of Health (DOH), and National Core Standards.
    • Participate in professional development to ensure the highest standards of infection prevention and control.
    • Educate stakeholders on infection control, ensuring up-to-date knowledge on infectious diseases and prevention methods.
    • Assist in maintaining and achieving quality accreditations.
    • Compile and present reports on incidents and adverse events with actionable recommendations.
    • Ensure compliance with legislation and COID standards, conducting investigations as necessary.
    • Facilitate risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate identified risks.
    • Maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date risk register and SHERQ activity records.
