    Social Auxiliary Worker Role Overview

    This position is ideal for a qualified Social Auxiliary Worker who is registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP). The successful candidate will lead a team of outreach workers to support MSM, providing psychosocial support, crisis interventions, and guidance on HIV care. The role includes engaging with stakeholders, reporting on client needs, and supporting client reintegration into family and community settings.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Therapeutic Interventions / Psychosocial Support
      • Offer safe and confidential psychosocial support for MSM within the program.
      • Provide crisis intervention and trauma support as needed.
      • Support MSM clients in social reintegration and family reunification.
      • Follow up with clients on their adherence to ART, TB treatment, or PEP.
      • Assist outreach workers with pre- and post-HIV testing counseling and refer MSM clients to additional services as required.
    2. Reporting, Administration, and Facilitation
      • Complete all necessary data collection and documentation.
      • Compile reports on trends, challenges, and client needs.
      • Participate in program activities and perform associated administrative duties.
    3. Stakeholder Engagement
      • Attend organizational meetings and represent Anova’s values and mission.
      • Act as a role model to promote positive behavior change within MSM and outreach teams.
      • Foster professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders as directed by management.
    4. Other Duties
      • Perform any other tasks as assigned by the line manager to support program goals and objectives.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Educational Requirement: A recognized Social Auxiliary Work certificate, registered with HWSETA and currently enrolled in a Social Work degree.
    • Professional Registration: Active registration with SACSSP.
    • Experience: 2–5 years working with PLWHIV, with training in I-ACT and NAS.
    • Specialized Knowledge: Experience working with HIV/AIDS programs and key population groups (MSM preferred).
    • Skills:
      • Proficiency in MS Office.
      • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
      • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
      • Good report writing and documentation skills.
    • Other Requirements: Willingness to travel to various communities when needed.
