Key Responsibilities of the Teacher Role
As a Grade 000 teacher, the educator will play a vital role in nurturing and developing young minds, ensuring that children are prepared for their educational journey. The primary responsibility of the teacher will be to create an engaging and stimulating learning environment that fosters individual growth and helps children develop both academically and socio-emotionally.
The specific duties for this role include:
- Academic Delivery: The teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering lessons that are future-focused, motivating, and challenging for students.
- Academic Assessment & Reporting: Assessing the academic progress of students and providing regular updates to parents, guardians, and colleagues.
- Student Behaviour Management: Managing classroom behavior effectively, ensuring a positive and respectful learning environment.
- School Brand Ambassadorship: Representing the school in a professional manner, fostering good relationships with parents, the community, and other stakeholders.
- Administration: Handling necessary administrative tasks related to the role, including record-keeping and communication with parents and colleagues.
- Health & Safety: Ensuring the safety and well-being of all students under the teacher’s care, following school safety protocols.
The teacher is expected to work closely with colleagues, parents, and other members of the school community to ensure a supportive and collaborative learning environment. This collaborative approach will ensure that each child’s academic, physical, and emotional needs are met effectively.
Qualifications & Experience Requirements
The ideal candidate for this role should meet the following qualifications and experience criteria:
- A post-matric certificate in Early Childhood Development (ECD) at NQF level 5 as a minimum or an undergraduate degree (NQF level 6) in ECD or B.Ed (Foundation Phase).
- A PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) would be necessary if the degree is deemed suitable, such as one in Psychology.
- SACE (South African Council for Educators) certification and a valid police clearance certificate.
- A minimum of 2 to 5 years of teaching experience in an early childhood development (ECD) or foundation phase setting.
- Proficiency in computer and digital literacy.
- Certification in First Aid is required.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate strong planning and organizational skills, a positive and professional attitude, and the ability to communicate effectively with children, colleagues, and parents.
