    About the Video Analyst Role

    As a Video Analyst within the Specialized Services team, you will be at the forefront of analyzing and interpreting video footage to support criminal investigations, security operations, and other investigative processes. Your role will involve a combination of technical expertise, analytical skills, and the ability to work under pressure to enhance security measures, identify crucial evidence, and support law enforcement and security teams.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Technical Skills

    • Video Analysis Software: Proficiency in handling various video analysis software is essential. The role requires knowledge of CCTV systems, facial recognition technology, video editing software, and motion-tracking tools.
    • Data Analysis Tools: Experience with software like Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for report creation and analysis is necessary, along with specialized platforms for analyzing video and performance data.
    • Surveillance Systems Knowledge: A thorough understanding of surveillance technologies, including CCTV, body cameras, and drones, is required to efficiently retrieve video footage.
    • Data Management: Ensure secure and organized storage of video data to facilitate easy access when needed.
    • Video Enhancement & Forensic Analysis: Enhance video quality and isolate specific events or objects for further scrutiny. This includes adjusting footage speed and identifying key visual details.

    2. Analytical Skills

    • Attention to Detail: Ability to spot small movements or anomalies that could hold investigative importance.
    • Pattern Recognition: Skilled at identifying recurring patterns in video, including behaviors, specific individuals, or vehicles.
    • Critical Thinking: Assess video evidence to draw conclusions that fit the larger investigative context.
    • Problem-Solving Skills: Identify and troubleshoot video issues, whether technical or related to specific performance gaps.

    3. Communication Skills and Report Writing

    • Report Writing: Ability to document video findings into clear and actionable reports for various stakeholders.
    • Presentation Skills: Capable of presenting video analysis results in meetings, and possibly as expert testimony in legal cases.
    • Visual Reporting: Create visual aids, such as photo albums and link charts, to enhance report presentations.
    • Collaboration: Work closely with security personnel, investigators, and other team members to communicate findings effectively.

    4. Problem-Solving Abilities

    • Incident Reconstruction: Use video footage to reconstruct timelines and sequences for investigative purposes.
    • Adaptability: Quick and effective analysis of footage in diverse and fast-paced settings.
    • Decision-Making: Ability to make swift and informed decisions in high-stakes environments like live security monitoring.

    Experience and Qualifications

    • Educational Background: Matric (Grade 12) and CCTV Monitor System Training. A degree or certification in criminal justice, cybersecurity, forensics, IT, or a related field is advantageous.
    • Relevant Certifications: Certifications like Certified Forensic Video Examiner or other relevant video analysis and forensic certifications are highly valued.
    • Experience: Prior experience in security, forensics, or video analysis is essential.
    • Technical Skills Certification: Proficiency in video surveillance or other specialized software tools would be beneficial.

    • Adaptability to New Tools: Comfort with evolving video technology and the willingness to learn new software or techniques.
    • Industry Updates: Stay informed on the latest developments in video analysis technology and methods.
