About Anova Health Institute NPC
Anova Health Institute NPC is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing essential healthcare services and support to those most in need. Established in late 2017, the Jab Smart project addresses the high risk of HIV among People Who Use Drugs (PWUD) in the Johannesburg Metro. This peer-led initiative, supported by the Global Fund and NACOSA, focuses on harm reduction and stigma reduction, ensuring access to vital health services for PWUD.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Transport and Logistics
- Ensure the safe and secure transit of staff to and from outreach sites and offices.
- Manage the mobile clinic or work vehicle, including fuel, mileage, and maintenance records.
- Load and unload field equipment (chairs, tents, generators, etc.) for each shift.
- Adhere to National Road Traffic Act regulations and Anova’s vehicle SOP and safety requirements.
- Submit weekly vehicle inspection checklists and incident reports when necessary.
Outreach Support Work
- Provide holistic, client-centred HIV Testing Services (HTS).
- Conduct HTS according to National HIV Counselling and Testing guidelines.
- Navigate HIV-positive clients to the nearest health facilities and ensure ART initiation.
- Maintain compliance with HTS, waste management, and infection control guidelines.
- Encourage PWUD to seek healthcare, including HCT and STI screenings.
- Ensure adequate supplies for outreach activities and proper storage of HTS supplies.
Administration Support Work
- Accurately complete and submit client data daily.
- Maintain high-quality HTS data and ensure timely reporting and resolution of data queries.
- Monitor HTS data to ensure targets are met.
- Develop strong relationships with health facilities to ensure linkage to care for referred PWID.
- Timely submission of timesheets and other delegated administrative tasks.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Degree or diploma as a Professional Nurse.
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council.
- NIMART qualification (essential).
- Dispensing license.
Experience
- At least 3 years of driving experience with a valid Drivers’ Licence and PDP.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in HIV/AIDS counselling and testing.
- At least 2 years of experience as a registered nurse with knowledge of PWID community issues.
Skills
- Familiarity with the latest HIV Management, TB, and PMTCT guidelines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong report writing and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and attention to detail.
- Strong team orientation and time management skills.
