    About the Artisan Role

    The Artisan (Electrician) will play a critical role in maintaining efficient and reliable electrical support services for customers. Reporting to the Superintendent within the Meter Engineering branch, the incumbent will utilize their technical expertise to ensure the seamless operation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems.

    Key Responsibilities

    The position entails a variety of tasks aimed at ensuring the safety, functionality, and reliability of electrical systems, including:

    • Constructing, maintaining, operating, repairing, and testing electrical mains, apparatus, and ancillary equipment from low voltage to 33,000V.
    • Performing switching operations up to 11,000V and working on live equipment up to 440V.
    • Issuing low voltage permits and completing Certificates of Compliance after testing installations.
    • Supervising and motivating apprentices, trade workers, and other trainees while providing specialist technical advice.
    • Undertaking workplace safety inspections in compliance with the municipality’s SHE Management System.
    • Promoting safety and accident prevention measures in the workplace.
    • Managing administrative tasks, including timely submission of paperwork related to work tasks.
    • Transporting staff and equipment as needed.

    Essential Requirements

    Applicants must meet the following qualifications and experience criteria:

    1. A recognized qualification as an Electrician, validated by a Trade Test Certificate recognized by the Department of Employment and Labour.
    2. A minimum of NTC2 or NCV3 in Electrical Engineering from a registered Further Education and Training College.
    3. A valid Code EB or EC1 driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one within six months of appointment.
    4. Possession of a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) or the ability to obtain one within six months of appointment if required.
    5. First Aid training or completion within six months of appointment.
    6. Successful completion of a departmental proficiency test to validate general knowledge in the electrical field.
    7. At least two years of relevant experience.

    Preferred Requirements

    While not essential, the following qualifications and experience are advantageous:

    • Three years of relevant experience in the electrical field.

    Special Conditions

    1. The position requires a 40-hour workweek spread over five days.
    2. Successful candidates may be subject to transfer or relocation to any depot or division within the Electricity Unit.
    3. Compliance with PPE guidelines is mandatory.

    Remuneration
