Key Responsibilities of the Clinic Practitioner
As the Clinic Sister at Dis-Chem’s Cosmo City branch, your primary role will be to manage and operate a profitable, patient-centered health care clinic. Your responsibilities include:
- Clinical Duties:
- Providing essential health services in line with industry regulations and best practices.
- Ensuring the availability of all clinic services, including family planning, vaccinations, cytology, and emergency care.
- Administering breastfeeding and HIV/AIDS counseling, pathology services, wound care, and handling emergency situations.
- Patient and Operational Management:
- Maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring proper follow-up.
- Managing patient foot traffic and setting clinic objectives to enhance patient experiences.
- Managing claims and ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Ensuring all stock and equipment is functional, and the clinic is stocked sufficiently.
- Stakeholder Relations:
- Building and maintaining healthy relationships with patients, store and dispensary managers, and key community healthcare players.
- Collaborating effectively with medical aid providers and suppliers.
- Training and Development:
- Engaging in quarterly CPD and in-service training sessions with Dis-Chem.
- Maintaining a thorough understanding of clinical guidelines and new developments in primary health care.
Essential Requirements
To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Education:
- Grade 12 (Matric) and a tertiary qualification in General Nursing.
- Degree or Diploma in Midwifery.
- Professional Registration:
- Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- Must obtain a Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF) registration.
- Experience:
- 2-3 years of experience as a Primary Health Care Clinic Sister.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Additional Knowledge:
- Understanding of community health, primary care, and occupational health nursing.
- Familiarity with family planning, cytology, pharmacology, emergency care, and wound management.
- Personal Attributes:
- Strong communication skills in English.
- Strong analytical skills for interpreting clinic statistics and meeting targets.
- Emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and time-management capabilities.
Advantageous Skills and Qualifications
Candidates with the following additional qualifications and skills will have an advantage:
- Minimum of five years of experience as a Primary Health Care Sister.
- Proficiency in additional patient management systems (e.g., CKS & Allegra).
- Knowledge of business objectives and fluency in multiple languages.
- Completion of courses in Baby Immunisation (DoH/Sanofi Pasteur), Family Planning (DoH), Disease Management, and Breastfeeding.
