    Desktop Engineer Job Description

    The Desktop Engineer will provide essential hardware and software support to the DUT community, ensuring the highest standards of customer service. This role will support the Senior Desktop Engineer and ICT team, aligning their efforts with DUT’s goals for excellence in information technology.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Technical Support:
      • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues.
      • Research solutions for technical problems.
      • Ensure efficient desktop and laptop functionality.
    2. Customer Engagement:
      • Manage relationships with core users.
      • Assess customer needs and provide timely solutions.
      • Offer guidance on IT-related queries.
    3. Fault Analysis and Repairs:
      • Analyze faults identified through user reports or scheduled diagnostics.
      • Conduct necessary repairs or maintenance on desktops and laptops.
      • Upgrade and update hardware and software as needed.
    4. Service Quality Assurance:
      • Analyze service quality metrics to ensure alignment with standards.
      • Utilize business tools for data collection and performance analysis.
      • Ensure compliance with relevant IT quality specifications.

    Required Qualifications and Experience

    Education:

    • Minimum: NQF Level 6 qualification in Information Technology or a related field.
    • Preferred: NQF Level 6 qualification with CompTIA A+ certification.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of five years of IT support experience.

    Key Competencies:

    • Expertise in server operations, special application software, and desktop support.
    • Ability to diagnose and repair technical issues efficiently.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to engage with users and improve service delivery.
