The Purpose of the Dispensary Support Role

Minimum Requirements

- Education:
- Matriculation (Grade 12) with a Senior Certificate.
- A minimum of 50% in Pure Mathematics, Life Sciences, or Physical Sciences.
- An overall average of at least 50%.
- Proficiency Test: Candidates must pass a proficiency test required for SAPC registration as a learner basic assistant.
Job Responsibilities
Under the supervision of a pharmacist, Dispensary Support staff will perform critical pharmacy-related tasks, including:
- Sale of Medicines: Handling Schedule 1 medicines and scheduled substances.
- Compounding and Preparation: Assisting in the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines based on approved formulas and standard operating procedures.
- Inventory Management: Organizing stock, ensuring cleanliness, monitoring medicine expiry dates, and reporting stock discrepancies.
- Dispensary Maintenance: Unpacking, merchandising stock, and maintaining OTC shelves.
- Customer Interaction: Assisting with call center scripts, patient service telephone calls, and providing health-related information to patients.
- Script Processing: Accurately interpreting prescriptions, picking, packing, labeling, and verifying medications under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Authorization Assistance: Supporting the authorization process for chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medication schemes.
- Administrative Duties: Reporting low or out-of-stock levels, script tracking, and assisting with follow-up appointments as required by the dispensary manager.
