    CapeNature is seeking an energetic and professional candidate for the role of Facilities Officer (Level 8) at the Wolwekloof Resort, located near the Wittebrug Nature Reserve between Wolseley and Ceres in the Western Cape. This three-year contract position offers a competitive salary ranging from R483,886 to R558,849 per annum, and the selected candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting eco-tourism and conservation in the Witzenberg Landscape Unit.

    About the Facilities Officer Position

    As part of the Conservation Operations Directorate, the Facilities Officer will manage the Wolwekloof Resort, ensuring its infrastructure, facilities, and operations are aligned with CapeNature’s commitment to eco-tourism and conservation. The successful candidate will report to the Conservation Manager on Reserve (CMOR): Waterval Nature Reserve Complex and oversee a range of responsibilities, from maintenance and landscaping to team management and compliance with policies and procedures.

    Key Responsibilities

    Service Excellence and Infrastructure Management

    • Maintain high service standards and ensure all facilities are managed according to approved strategies.
    • Oversee the maintenance and repair of resort infrastructure and facilities.
    • Support ecological infrastructure restoration in collaboration with the adjacent Wittebrug Nature Reserve.
    • Regularly assess infrastructure, prepare reports, and implement recommendations.
    • Develop infrastructure databases and maintenance schedules.

    Team Management and Capacity Building

    • Lead and manage the on-site Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) team in line with relevant legislation and CapeNature policies.
    • Promote a motivated and productive team environment.
    • Facilitate skills development and knowledge transfer to EPWP members.
    • Identify and address skills shortages in consultation with the conservation manager.

    Maintenance and Repair Leadership

    • Prepare and implement maintenance schedules for infrastructure and equipment.
    • Rapidly respond to infrastructure failures or damage caused by natural disasters.
    • Oversee the upkeep of resort grounds, including landscaping and the management of alien vegetation.
    • Ensure the functionality of water supply systems, electrical systems, buildings, and facilities.

    Financial and Procurement Management

    • Conduct infrastructure audits and manage repair projects with contractors.
    • Compile specifications for outsourced work, attend bidder meetings, and evaluate quotations.
    • Manage procurement processes in line with CapeNature’s supply chain policies.
    • Undertake performance assessments and close-out reporting for contracts.

    Policy Compliance and Reporting

    • Ensure adherence to occupational health and safety legislation and environmental regulations.
    • Align maintenance activities with CapeNature’s operational and regulatory standards.
    • Submit detailed reports and maintain records in accordance with organizational procedures.

    Minimum Requirements

    Candidates must meet the following requirements:

    • Educational Qualification: National Diploma in Building Management, Property Management, Facilities Management, or a related field (NQF 6 level).
    • Experience: At least five years of experience in facilities, operations, or building project management, preferably in the tourism sector.
    • Language Skills: Proficiency in at least two official Western Cape languages.
    • Driver’s License: A valid EB (08) manual vehicle license (Code 10 recommended).
    • Clean criminal record.

    Recommendations

    • Certifications in project management or related fields are advantageous.
    • Eco-tourism experience and knowledge of nature-based tourism and conservation are preferred.
    • Strong leadership, conflict resolution, and team management skills.
    • Problem-solving capabilities and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

    Additional Information
