What Does the Role Entail?
The primary responsibility of a Dental Assistant at Intercare Waterstone is to support dental professionals in delivering high-quality dental care. This includes assisting in general and specialist dentistry procedures and facilitating smooth patient administration processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Work within the defined scope of practice and maintain a high level of competency in current dental trends and advancements.
- Take accountability for decisions and actions taken during the care delivery process.
- Ensure the dental room is clean and sterile, adhering to strict infection control protocols.
- Assist the dentist during clinical procedures, following branch protocols.
- Coordinate laboratory work, such as completing lab slips and managing collections and returns.
- Manage the availability and efficient use of consumables and equipment in the dental room.
- Engage with patients and staff to address concerns, ensuring safe dental practices.
- Maintain accurate documentation according to policy and legal requirements.
- Uphold patient confidentiality, dignity, and safety.
- Manage the proper disposal of medical waste and adhere to legal standards.
- Monitor the functionality of dental equipment and report any malfunctions that could pose risks.
Requirements
To qualify for the role, you will need:
- Grade 12 Certificate: A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Training in Dental Assisting: Completion of an approved training course in dental assisting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: Previous experience in a customer-focused service environment is advantageous.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of Dental Practices: Understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of general dentistry.
- Advanced Knowledge of Dental Terminology: Familiarity with dental terms and treatment codes used for quotations on advanced dentistry procedures.
- Infection Control and Sterilization: Strong understanding of infection control principles and sterilization techniques.
- Specialized Dental Procedures: Knowledge of specialized dental procedures and GoodX software experience is advantageous.
- HPCSA Registration: Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Registered Dental Assistant.
