Purpose of the Job:
To safely maintain and repair mechanical parts, components, and equipment at the Middelburg Ferrochrome (MFC) facility.
Key Responsibilities
As a Maintenance Artisan Fitter at Samancor Chrome, you will be involved in a variety of tasks to ensure the smooth functioning of the MFC plant. Below are the core responsibilities associated with the role:
1. Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, Quality, and Community (SHEQ)
- Comply with all SHEQ policies and requirements.
- Ensure all tasks are executed safely and in alignment with established safety protocols.
2. Customer Satisfaction
- Ensure that all tasks meet the required standards to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
3. Business Processes and Work Execution
- Perform maintenance work as outlined in the Work Order and Task List.
- Conduct regular plant inspections to identify potential issues.
- Apply fault-finding techniques to troubleshoot and resolve equipment problems efficiently.
- Record work history and complete required notifications with accurate details.
- Provide feedback to the Maintenance Specialist on any deviations from task instructions.
- Report any lack of resources or issues that prevent task completion to the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Generate inspection notifications for any necessary follow-up actions.
4. Breakdown and Emergency Maintenance
- Quickly and safely respond to breakdowns.
- Capture data related to the stoppage, supporting root cause analysis efforts.
- Offer feedback on improving breakdown handling to the Maintenance Specialist.
5. Stock and Inventory Management
- Create Preventative Maintenance (PM) orders and reservations for necessary items from stock.
- Ensure damaged items are properly tagged, stored, and transported to lay-down areas.
6. Handling and Transporting Equipment
- Operate overhead cranes and forklifts to handle and move loads.
- Be prepared to perform standby duties as needed (requires own transport).
- Availability for overtime work, depending on operational needs.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
To be eligible for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Educational Background: Grade 12 (Matric) or N3 with four technical/business subjects and two language subjects.
- Certification: Qualified Fitter Trade Test Certificate.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a heavy industrial environment post-trade certification.
- Driver’s License: Valid Code 8/B driver’s license.
Additional Advantageous Qualifications
- Previous experience with Pelletizing and Sintering Plant (PSP) processes.
- Proficiency in MS Office and experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (e.g., SAP).
