    Key Responsibilities

    As a Maintenance Fitter at AVI Limited’s Durban Tea Factory, your responsibilities will include:

    • Mechanical Breakdown Repairs: You will be responsible for repairing high-speed packaging machines and other equipment when breakdowns occur.
    • Preventative Maintenance: Regular inspections and maintenance will be a key part of your job to ensure machinery is in good working condition, preventing unexpected breakdowns.
    • Plant Shutdowns: Planning and executing shutdowns of plant equipment for regular maintenance and upgrades will be part of your duties.
    • Root Cause Analysis: Identifying and analysing the root causes of mechanical issues to recommend and implement long-term solutions.
    • Maintenance Management Systems: Keeping accurate maintenance records using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as Shopware will be required.
    • Continuous Improvement Projects: You’ll be involved in commissioning new equipment and working on projects aimed at improving plant efficiency and reducing downtime.
    • Safety Compliance: Ensuring that all maintenance work is carried out in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards and promoting a culture of safety in the workplace.

    Minimum Requirements

    To be considered for the Maintenance Fitter position at AVI Limited, you will need to meet the following criteria:

    Experience:

    • A minimum of 10 years of experience working with high-speed packaging machinery, ideally in the food or beverage industry.

    Qualifications:

    • N3 Mechanical Engineering qualification.
    • Mechanical Fitter Trade Test certificate.

    Skills and Competencies:

    • Proficiency in welding (TIG & Arc) and machining, including operating equipment like lathes, surface grinders, and milling machines.
    • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
    • Experience working with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) such as Shopware.
    • Ability to design and fabricate basic steel structures as needed for machinery or plant improvements.
    • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma).
    • A valid driver’s license and access to your own transport, as shift work will be required.
