    About the Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant Role

    The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care. Their responsibilities will include meeting patients’ medicine-related needs, managing prescriptions, and ensuring exceptional customer service.     Minimum Requirements

    To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

    • Education: Grade 12 / Matric and a Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification.
    • Registration: Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
    • Technical Skills:
      • Proficiency in using Unisolv and MS Office.
      • Strong numerical skills.
      • Command of English and a second language.
    • Availability: Willingness to work retail hours.

    Advantageous skills and experience include:

    • Knowledge of Retail/FMCG operations.
    • Familiarity with SAP and E-Scripting.
    • A third additional language.
    • Experience in drug and family planning, as well as complementary medicine.

    Key Responsibilities

    The role includes a variety of responsibilities to ensure optimal pharmaceutical services. Some of these duties are:

    1. Dispensary Support:
      • Assist with the sale and preparation of scheduled medicines.
      • Aid in the repackaging and manufacturing of non-sterile medicines.
      • Accurately interpret scripts and ensure correct dispensing under pharmacist supervision.
    2. Stock Management:
      • Control and distribute stock for Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines.
      • Manage the ordering and receiving of dispensary stock according to Dis-Chem’s SOPs.
    3. Customer Interaction:
      • Advise patients on self-medication and proper medicine usage.
      • Explain medical aid costs and assist with claims processing.
      • Provide information to promote overall health and wellness.
    4. Administrative Tasks:
      • Maintain accurate customer profiles.
      • Handle claims submissions and resolve medical aid rejections.
      • Perform regular stock checks and bi-annual stock takes.

    Competencies and Attributes

    Ideal candidates should exhibit the following qualities:

    • Strong communication skills in English and a second language.
    • Exceptional customer focus and attention to detail.
    • Problem-solving abilities and teamwork.
    • Honesty, reliability, and the ability to manage time effectively.
    • Proficiency in MS Office.

    Additional desirable traits include:

    • Knowledge of complementary medicine.
    • Familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting systems.

    Special Conditions

    • Candidates must be registered with the SAPC.
    • Ability to work retail hours and adapt to the demands of a pharmacy environment.
    • A valid driver’s license and a clear credit and criminal record are mandatory.
    • The role may require long periods of standing and handling controlled room temperatures.
