Responsible Pharmacist Job Description
The Responsible Pharmacist will report directly to the Hospital Manager and will be responsible for managing the pharmacy at the Naledi Nkanyezi Private Hospital. You will be setting standards for pharmaceutical services at a group level, ensuring compliance with South African regulatory bodies and internal policies.
In this role, you will manage day-to-day pharmacy operations, including the preparation, compounding, and dispensing of medications. Key Responsibilities
As the Responsible Pharmacist, you will be expected to:
- Manage Pharmacy Operations:
- Oversee the daily activities of the pharmacy in compliance with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) standards and Good Pharmacy Practice guidelines.
- Ensure that the pharmacy adheres to the regulations set by the Department of Health (DOH) and other statutory requirements.
- Incident Reporting and Management:
- Implement a system of incident reporting, identifying negative trends, and instituting corrective actions.
- Oversee the root cause analysis of pharmacy-related incidents and collaborate with the clinical staff to implement necessary operational changes to enhance patient safety.
- Pharmaceutical Care:
- Provide cost-effective, quality pharmaceutical care tailored to the needs of patients in a hospital environment.
- Ensure that all prescribed medications are prepared and dispensed accurately, adhering to relevant policies and guidelines.
- Antimicrobial Stewardship:
- Establish and promote antimicrobial stewardship programs to enhance patient safety and optimize the use of antimicrobial agents in the hospital setting.
- Compliance and Training:
- Ensure all pharmacy activities are aligned with company policies, processes, and quality standards.
- Provide relevant staff with training to enhance their knowledge and capabilities in maintaining a safe pharmaceutical environment.
- Patient Interaction:
- Address and resolve patient concerns and complaints in a timely, systematic manner, conducting follow-up consultations where necessary.

Requirements
To be eligible for this exciting opportunity, you will need to meet the following qualifications and experience requirements:
- B. Pharm Degree or Diploma in Pharmacy.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience, with at least 1 year of experience as a Responsible Pharmacist.
- Familiarity with South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) regulations and Good Pharmacy Practice guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to manage pharmacy operations in a healthcare setting.
- Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
