    Social Auxiliary Workers Role Overview

    As a Social Auxiliary Worker at Anova Health Institute, your primary responsibility will be to provide holistic and patient-centered psychosocial support to MSM in Anova’s healthcare facilities and outreach programs. You will lead a team focused on improving the mental and social well-being of MSM, supporting them through the HIV treatment journey, and facilitating family re-integration where necessary.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Therapeutic Interventions/Psychosocial Support:
      • Provide safe, confidential psychosocial support or crisis interventions for MSM in the program.
      • Offer trauma containment services where required.
      • Focus on social reintegration and family unification for MSM clients.
      • Follow up with clients to ensure adherence to HIV care and other treatments, such as Antiretroviral Therapy (ART), TB treatment, or Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP).
      • Assist outreach workers with HIV counseling (pre- and post-testing) as needed.
      • Make referrals for additional services when necessary.
    2. Reporting, Administration, and Facilitation:
      • Complete required data collection tools.
      • Prepare reports on client needs, challenges, and service trends.
      • Participate in general program activities and office administration as needed.
    3. Stakeholder Engagement:
      • Attend regular meetings, briefings, and debriefings.
      • Represent Anova with pride, adhering to its core values and principles.
      • Serve as a role model for MSM clients, outreach workers, and senior ambassadors, encouraging positive behavior change.

    Minimum Requirements

    To qualify for the role of Social Auxiliary Worker, candidates must meet the following requirements:

    • Certification: Hold a recognized Social Auxiliary Work certificate (HWSETA accredited).
    • Registration: Registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
    • Experience: At least 2 to 5 years of experience working with People Living with HIV (PLWHIV).
    • Additional Training:
      • Training in I-ACT (Integrated Access to Care and Treatment).
      • Training in the National Adherence Strategy (NAS).
      • Experience working with Key Population Groups is an advantage.
    • Other Skills:
      • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
      • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
      • Good report writing skills and proficiency with MS Office.
      • Willingness to travel to various communities as required.
