The Western Cape Government’s Department of Infrastructure is offering various apprenticeship opportunities for qualified candidates in the Garden Route District, Overberg District, and Central Karoo District. These apprenticeships focus on different aspects of construction, such as electrical and bricklaying trades. Apprenticeship Details
Each apprenticeship program is structured to include:

Apprenticeship Areas and Details
Garden Route District
The Garden Route District invites candidates to apply for electrical apprenticeship opportunities. This program is ideal for individuals who are passionate about electrical work and want to pursue a career in the trade.
Minimum Requirements for Electrical Apprenticeship (Ref. APPELECGR):
- Between 18 and 30 years of age.
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must be a resident of the Garden Route District.
- Must be unemployed at the time of application.
- Previous relevant experience is recommended but not necessary.
- An Occupational Certificate in Electrical trade theory (NQF Level 1) or a TVET equivalent, with a pass in Pure Mathematics and Science.
- Ability to communicate in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape.
Overberg District
In the Overberg District, the Department is offering an apprenticeship opportunity in bricklaying. This program is perfect for individuals interested in the construction trade, especially in building and laying bricks.
Minimum Requirements for Bricklaying Apprenticeship (Ref. APPBRICKOVB):
- Between 18 and 30 years of age.
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must be a resident of the Overberg District.
- Must be unemployed.
- Applicants with experience in bricklaying are encouraged to apply.
- An Occupational Certificate in Bricklaying (NQF Level 3) with a pass in Mathematical Literacy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape.
Central Karoo District
The Central Karoo District also invites applications for electrical apprenticeship opportunities. The training in this district will provide the same set of benefits and requirements as the Garden Route District’s electrical apprenticeship program.
Minimum Requirements for Electrical Apprenticeship (Ref. APPELECCK):
- Between 18 and 30 years of age.
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must be a resident of the Central Karoo District.
- Must be unemployed.
- Previous relevant experience is recommended.
- An Occupational Certificate in Electrical trade theory (NQF Level 1) or a TVET equivalent, with a pass in Pure Mathematics and Science.
- Proficiency in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape.
Competencies and Skills Developed During the Apprenticeship
The apprenticeship programs are designed to help participants develop the following essential competencies:
- Technical Skills (Practical): Apprentices will gain hands-on experience and technical skills specific to their chosen trade, whether electrical or bricklaying.
- Numeracy Skills: Apprentices will be required to use basic mathematical skills in their daily tasks, ensuring they are able to measure, calculate, and manage construction-related calculations.
- Literacy Skills: Reading and writing abilities are crucial in managing construction projects and ensuring proper communication.
- Knowledge of the Trade: Apprentices will learn the nuances of their chosen field, ensuring they can perform tasks effectively and safely.
- General Knowledge of the Built Environment: An understanding of the overall construction environment, including tools, materials, and the process of building.
Stipend and Benefits
Successful candidates will be provided with a monthly stipend of R5,500 throughout the duration of their apprenticeship. The stipend ensures that apprentices can focus on their training without worrying about financial constraints.
Application Process
Interested applicants can register for the apprenticeship programs via the SA Youth.Mobi platform. This platform is accessible through various local facilities such as libraries, Thusong Centres, E-Centre Youth Cafés, Internet Cafés, or through personal smartphones.
Once registered, shortlisted candidates will be contacted to upload certified copies of their identity document and highest educational certificates. The application process is open until 31 July 2025, and successful candidates will be notified by 15 September 2025.
